Government warns of even higher spring tide tomorrow morning not likely to cause disaster

Even as residents of several East Coast Demerara villages attempt to recover from high spring tides which overtopped the sea walls and flooded villages, warnings are now being issued of an even bigger tide which is expected tomorrow.

But according to Chief Hydrometeorological Officer (ag) Bhaleka Suelall, the tide is not likely to cause any major disaster, unless it is coupled with severe weather conditions. Currently, there is no weather system in the vicinity of Guyana likely to trigger any major problems. The highest maximum spring tide predicted for 2008 is expected tomorrow morning at 04:25 hrs, at a height of 3.27 metres.
