Police Association calls on Government to boost morale of ranks

The Guyana Police Association, the body which represents junior ranks of the Force, is calling on the Government to do everything in its power to ensure that the morale of members of the Force remains high in these challenging times.
The call comes in the wake of the slaying of three policemen and the injuring of two others when the police station was overrun by criminals during a brazen attack on the community of Bartica, which left a total of 12 persons dead.

In a press release issued yesterday, the Police Association condemned the brutal attack and empathised with the families, relatives and friends of the victims, and more particularly with the police ranks who were specifically targeted for execution.
The Association feels strongly that the intention is to demoralize the members of the Force and to create an environment that may lead to difficulty in the Forces ability to attract new recruits, which would adversely affect the Force in dealing with crime.

The Association is urging all its members and officers of the Force to be strong and remain focused at this time, and not to be swayed by these actions of criminal elements within the society. To this end, the Police Association called for the immediate appointment of the Chairman of the Police Service Commission as a requisite in order that police ranks may receive the consequential benefits.

The police have a job to do, which is to serve and protect this nation, and it will continue to do so by all possible means along with the help of public spirited and law-abiding citizens, the press release stated.
The body is calling upon citizens to support the police in their just cause and in the fight against crime.

Always remember that the one who knows how to adjust is the one who knows how to survive. The Guyana Police Force will successfully survive the challenges of this era, as it has done on previous occasions, the release added.
